Chapter Two - And the Owl Came Back~ [Video/Action]

[The video feed will come on with a figure that most everyone in Luceti is probably familiar with by now. The large owl towering over the journal and an overcast sky above him as it rains lightly.]

Greetings citizens of Luceti, I am Wan Shi Tong, he who knows ten thousand things.

[Sound familiar?]

In my world I am the spirit of knowledge and I have my own library for the betterment of mankind. As such, I believe my services here would be most valuable to you.

However, it would seem that for some reason I am unable to enter your library. I would appreciate an explanation or perhaps some assistance in this matter.

[The feed will then cut off. And in the mean time, the owl will be sitting outside the library. In the rain. He's getting wet out here.]

Indeed. Though a few have implied that I was here before and there was... an incident. I assure you that I have no memory of this.

Yes. I doubt that it will cause a fuss. If it does, contact me. I will see about resolving the problem.

[A beat, while he absorbs this. And then surprise steals across his features.]

You as well? [His brows knit together.] ...How utterly bizarre.

Very well.

[And with that, he decides that there's no use standing here any longer so he starts walking that direction.]

What do you mean?

As of late, I too find myself suffering from a lapse in memory for which I am unable to account. [His lips press thin.] I am left to rely on hearsay to... 'fill in the blanks', as it were, and to have a sense of what has come to pass in the days following our meeting.

And from what I understand, 'an incident' is a rather gentle way of phrasing it... [His voice drops to a husky, conspiratorial purr as if distrusting the strength of the filter put in place] ...and what has been done to you.

[There is a pause as Wan Shi Tong now takes this in. Hm. Those last words certainly get his attention though.]

What do you know?

[And off she goes as well!]

There is word that you addressed the village at large with an announcement in which you claimed ownership of the library and meant to control the circumstances under which books could be taken from its shelves. If I am not mistaken, you said to others that in the world whence you came, humans used the materials you guarded to selfish and evil ends, taking advantage of your willingness to grant them access. To no surprise, the humans of Luceti resisted your efforts and the materials from your library were stolen.

[He considers the vial of blood Loki had left in his possession.]

You did not take well to having that which you love torn from your grasp. But, despite your valiant efforts, you were subdued and offered to the Malnosso by the humans, who wished you to become… docile. More easily controlled, if you will, so that they might more easily take possession of what was once yours. You were then stripped of your memory and returned to this cage in your sorry state.

[Ah, now she understands better.] No. [She reconsiders that.] Not in the clans that I have had spent time with. [Or so she thinks. She does not see how she is expected to treat those with pure blood with more respect and to do all she can to protect them as being looked down on. Of course she should do these things. If the pure bloods are not protected and lost then how are they suppose to build back up their clans?

She had been given everything she needs to survive. She was taught how to fight. She was allowed to go out and explore the world and would be welcome back into the clan when she was ready to come back. Xzana had been a lucky one. One who should not have been born; who's body did not kill her. Of course she should show respect to her betters.]

[That would explain a few things but...]

And how do I know you are telling me the truth?

So that's why you wanted to live here. I think it would be sort of exciting to be able to live in a library.

Of your attempt to take ownership of the library and [impose] establish rules, I know well... for you revealed your intent very plainly through the journal and inspired a sizable mob of humans to froth at the mouth. As for the events that transpired after our discussion… [He lifts a shoulder.] I cannot say whether what I heard is to be trusted. Alas, I am as much at loss as yourself.

Indeed. It is quite enjoyable to be surrounded by such a wealth of knowledge.

[There is truth to this... but then there is often some truth behind every lie. Still, he has no reason to really doubt him. It is more of an explanation than anyone else has given him thus far.]

I see.

[This is a most perturbing thought to think that he had been manipulated and abused in such a way.]

I see. That is fortunate. Humans tend to fear and despise those that are different and against what they consider normal.

[You would know all about that wouldn't you Wan Shi Tong. Or you would if you remembered it.]

[Outside the library is where Emil will find Wan Shi Tong. He's got a backpack on his back and he's carrying an umbrella, so getting wet isn't a concern for him, and he looks a little dismayed to see the poor owl getting wet.

... but, um. That's kind of a HUGE owl, and he looks more than a little nervous about approaching it, meaning that he's going to hang back and just stare for a few moments while he tries to work up the nerve to get closer.]

Um...

For now, what about the battledome, or the community center? [They should be large enough to accommodate him... perhaps not very comfortably...] It's not what would be best, but for the time being could you stand it until this can be solved?

So now you understand why I believe the humans shall regard you and all you do with suspicion. [He absently coils a finger around a slim chain around his throat.] A reluctance to accept and to forgive has long been one of their many failings.

Do they? I have not had much experience with humans. [The humans she's had interaction with in Luceti and her home world have been accepting, but that was not the first time she heard that about them.] I have not seen this fear in humans myself, but I have heard many speak of this trait.

[Well, hello there Emil. This giant owl has definitely noticed and is staring back at you.]

If you have something to say, you may as well say it.

[He doesn't bite. Most of the time.]

[Wan Shi Tong is not entirely comfortable with this idea... but well.]

I suppose it would be acceptable for the time being.

Yes, I am aware of the nature of humans.

[Though this is still something he has to process. For if what Isaac says is true, it is not something that can be taken lightly. How could they betray him so readily when he had nothing but the best intentions in mind? Can any of them even be trusted?]

Indeed. They are selfish creatures that need guidance. It is for this reason that I have opened my library to them in my world.

[It's a question he asks himself every day he wakes in this cage -- and when older, darker memories roll over him and wash away what little good he has seen mankind to be capable of, the answer he's left with remains the same.

What honest goodness there may be is rare and never lasts, anyway.]
