Chapter One - The Library Dictator [Video]

[Now that things seem to have gone back to relative normalcy here in the land of Luceti, Wan Shi Tong decides that it is time to introduce himself to the community. Thus there will be a video feed of a very tall owl as he stands over his journal.]

Greetings citizens of Luceti, I am Wan Shi Tong, he who knows ten thousand things.

Due to my abduction from my own world and library, I have commandeered the one within this village. I will be the sole authority of the collection from this point on, and as such, there are a few new rules.

First of all, anyone who wishes to use the library must first offer new knowledge to add to the collection.

Secondly, none of the material within can be used for malicious intent. There is no exception to this. I do not care how noble your cause may be, whether it is against each other or our captors here.

Finally, I will no longer allow any materials to be removed from the building.

If these rules are not followed, there will be consequences.

Also, in regards to the last rule, all outstanding books and media must be returned for inventory. If you do not comply, I will send my assistants to retrieve them.

That is all.

I appreciate your honesty in returning the book.

[He will then take the book with a sweep of his wing.]

What is it you wish to discuss?

[rashness]

Okay, so I'm an exorcist - the name's Rin Okumura. And d'ya know what an exorcist does?

[knowitowl]

Of course. An exorcist by definition is someone who casts out demons. Though I am also aware that this varies between worlds, such as yours, as well as methods.

[rashness]

Yeah, but that's the ones which are causin' problems for people. And then we also deal with the ones who aren't, 'cus the ones that aren't might not wanna hurt people and are just confused or something.

[knowitowl]

Indeed.

Is there a point to you telling me this?

[rashness]

'Cus you're causin' some problems for people and I'm lookin' to figure out why.

[knowitowl]

I thought as much.

I am the knowledge spirit of my world. I amassed an archive of knowledge and made it available to humans so that they may better themselves. Instead, my knowledge was frequently abused in their wars and however else they could gain the upper hand over each other. I then banned humans from entering my study. I will not permit the abuse of any knowledge any longer.

[rashness]

Huh... [ His tail curls behind him, and he frowns a little, he guesses he can't argue with that. But ]

What kinda information in here's that dangerous anyway?

[knowitowl]

It would take far too long to list them all, but for example there is information on weapons, weaknesses, and other things that someone with ill intent could easily exploit.

[rashness]

I get weapons but what do you even mean by weaknesses...

[knowitowl]

That is a broad question. But for example someone could learn how to poison another or discover a weakness to someone else's abilities.

[rashness]

There can't be that many books which have scary stuff like that in them, right?

[knowitowl]

Not many are so blatant. There are many things that seem innocent at face value but can be used against someone else.

[rashness]

Then couldn't you just make a restricted section for the actually dangerous stuff like the weapons and the detailed weaknesses or whatever? That's gotta be easier than just not lettin' anyone check out anything.

[knowitowl]

Let me put things into perspective.

In my world there was a general who wished to study information on spirits. Innocent in itself and unassuming. However he discovered the mortal identity of the moon spirit and used this to destroy it. Effectively taking away the abilities of an entire nation while he proceeded to conquer them.

[rashness]

[ . . . . ] Wow, that's pretty harsh. I guess I can get why you'd be paranoid then.

[knowitowl]

I am glad that you can see my point of view.

[rashness]

I do but... it's also kinda annoyin' to have to read in here. Like I guess it's okay sometimes, but sometimes I like to read stuff when I'm goin' to bed...

[knowitowl]

Unfortunately I am more concerned about the misuse of information than convenience. It is regrettable but necessary.

[rashness]

[ He itches the side of his head. Uh... ]

Huh... You know I've been here a while, and I don't think it's caused problems yet...

[knowitowl]

Until it is proven that everyone here is trustworthy I do not intend to change the rules.

[rashness]

Oh. And nothin' is gunna change your mind except that?

[knowitowl]

That is correct.

Well that's going to be annoying for all sorts of people... isn't it also going to be a hassle for you?
