Chapter One - The Library Dictator [Video]

[Now that things seem to have gone back to relative normalcy here in the land of Luceti, Wan Shi Tong decides that it is time to introduce himself to the community. Thus there will be a video feed of a very tall owl as he stands over his journal.]

Greetings citizens of Luceti, I am Wan Shi Tong, he who knows ten thousand things.

Due to my abduction from my own world and library, I have commandeered the one within this village. I will be the sole authority of the collection from this point on, and as such, there are a few new rules.

First of all, anyone who wishes to use the library must first offer new knowledge to add to the collection.

Secondly, none of the material within can be used for malicious intent. There is no exception to this. I do not care how noble your cause may be, whether it is against each other or our captors here.

Finally, I will no longer allow any materials to be removed from the building.

If these rules are not followed, there will be consequences.

Also, in regards to the last rule, all outstanding books and media must be returned for inventory. If you do not comply, I will send my assistants to retrieve them.

That is all.

Then couldn't you just make a restricted section for the actually dangerous stuff like the weapons and the detailed weaknesses or whatever? That's gotta be easier than just not lettin' anyone check out anything.

Let me put things into perspective.

In my world there was a general who wished to study information on spirits. Innocent in itself and unassuming. However he discovered the mortal identity of the moon spirit and used this to destroy it. Effectively taking away the abilities of an entire nation while he proceeded to conquer them.

[ . . . . ] Wow, that's pretty harsh. I guess I can get why you'd be paranoid then.

I am glad that you can see my point of view.

[rashness]

I do but... it's also kinda annoyin' to have to read in here. Like I guess it's okay sometimes, but sometimes I like to read stuff when I'm goin' to bed...

[knowitowl]

Unfortunately I am more concerned about the misuse of information than convenience. It is regrettable but necessary.

[rashness]

[ He itches the side of his head. Uh... ]

Huh... You know I've been here a while, and I don't think it's caused problems yet...

[knowitowl]

Until it is proven that everyone here is trustworthy I do not intend to change the rules.

[rashness]

Oh. And nothin' is gunna change your mind except that?

[knowitowl]

That is correct.

[rashness]

Well that's going to be annoying for all sorts of people... isn't it also going to be a hassle for you?

[knowitowl]

I find it unlikely that everyone here can be trusted. However, if such a feat could be accomplished, it would be worth the trouble.

[rashness]

Oh no, I meant keepin' up your plan! Like you'd have to be attentive about everything!

[knowitowl]

That would hardly bother me. I am a spirit who does not sleep, and I need not be anywhere but the library.

[rashness]

You don't sleep?

[ How could anyone not sleep?

That's terrible ]

[knowitowl]

I have no need for it.

[rashness]

You're really missing out!

[ And in fact he lurches forward to try to take the guy by the hand to reassure him of this only to realize the owls have no hands ]

[knowitowl]

On what, exactly? Several hours of unconsciousness? Hardly. It is a mere waste of time.

[rashness]

But you feel so rested! And you can dream too!

[knowitowl]

Why would I need rest if I am not tired? Dreams are also only a manifest of the subconscious. Reality is far more interesting.

[rashness]

But dreams can be anything you want! It's like super imagination and you don't even know what you'll get!

[knowitowl]

I have no need for dreams when my imagination can make use of books.

[rashness]

[ . . . ]

So, do you like manga?

[knowitowl]

Your picture books are quite stylish, however, they do not leave much to the imagination.

[rashness]

But some of them are funny! Like have you read the one about the beaver mafia?!
